Assistant
Captain Wolff Volet, a 2003 graduate of Clements High School and ISHL alumnus, played for the Clements Ranger varsity
ice hockey team as a sophomore, junior and senior. When he moved to Sugar Land from Lafayette, Louisiana in 2000, he made an immediate impact on the high school and travel ice hockey teams here in Houston, acquiring the nickname of "Big-Hitter". Anyone that has ever been checked by Wolff can attest as to why this nickname is appropriate, especially the recipients of those infamous in the corner crushing blows by Mr. Big Hitter. Wolff is starting his second season with the Cleveland Lumberjacks of the Central States Hockey League (CSHL). Last season, Wolff’s rookie season, the Lumberjacks took third place in the CSHL. This record was an all time best for the Lumberjacks. Bob Jacobson, the Lumberjacks coach, is extremely pleased to have Wolff playing for him again and states, "Wolff has a great work ethic and sets the example for the other players." Wolff's previous coaches agree with Coach Jacobson. Michael Heinzen, Big-Hitter's midget and high school coach, asserts, "Wolff is a pleasure to coach and is an extremely coach-able player. He works hard on every drill in practice and every shift during games." This work ethic was apparent even from the days playing ice hockey in Lafayette. There he played for the Hockeyplex bantam and midget travel teams. So that Wolff and his teammates could have competitive experiences, his Lafayette teams traveled extensively throughout the US. His teams were among the elite teams in the south eastern section of the US. On these teams, he started out as a defenseman, but was moved to a power forward because of his size and ability to put the puck in the net by winning battles near the crease. After the move to Sugar Land, he joined the Houston Junior Aeros Travel A Hockey Team, which won the Texoma championship. This was the first time that a Houston Midget team won the championship. The following year, he played for the Jr. Aeros Midget AA team and finished out his midget years with the Houston Hitmen AA Midget travel team. For the Clement Rangers, Wolff became one of the premier power forwards in the ISHL, scoring 5 goals and 11 assists in 15 games his senior year, 13 goals and 8 assists in 22 games his junior year, and 6 goals and 11 assists in 22 games his sophomore year. Wolff was consistently one of the top four scores for the Clement Rangers each year. This season, Wolff is also attending Lakeland College in Cleveland, Ohio. Future plans include playing college hockey while pursuing a business degree. He has been contacted by several colleges and universities and has delayed his decision until completion of his final season with the Lumberjacks. -- by Steve Sands, Aug 28, 2004.
